Ill post a reference to my code here if Im successful. I hope to use the same basic idea in my own Topographic Maps to drag out a series of markers, then use the resulting PolyLine to draw an elevation profile, etc. Alternatively, values are displayed in miles and kilometres if a user zooms out to view a greater-sized region of the map. The source code is available via a link on that page. Plus, you can view options for different modes of transport to see how long Google estimates your journey will take. Google Map's Measuring Tool can be used to measure the distance between two points and the result is displayed in feet and metres. Once you spot the right place, right-click on it and a drop-down menu would appear. Much like the regular distance tool you can easily add locations to travel between and can add several destinations to create a route with multiple stops. First open up Google Maps web page on your PC and then use the search bar to look for your starting location. Tap the three lines in the top left corner of the map. If you’re planning to walk or drive between the locations then the Google Maps directions tool on PC and smartphones is a much better choice for seeing how far you’ll have to travel. To measure distance on Google Maps, open the app and select the map you want to use. Unless you can phase through walls or take to the skies like Kitty Pryde and Angel from the X-Men, then measuring the direct distance between locations likely won’t tell you how far you’ll actually have to travel.Ĭase in point, traveling between our London office and the Britsh Museum would actually be a 2.7-mile (4.35km) journey on foot according to Google, rather than the 2.3 miles it gave us for the direct distance between them.
